200 years since the death Louis XIV (5 September 1638 - 1 September 1715)
Louis was crowned king at the age of 4 in 1643 and reigned until his death in 1715, a total of 72 years.
Louis XIV was very aware of the media of his day and used them for his own means. Prints, statues, medals - there are more than 280 pictures and more than 330 medals nearing his likeness. He became know as le Roi-Soleil, the Sun King.
The king supported science, the arts and culture and created an absolute state becoming the foremost ruler in Europe.
