Ingo Maurer / Industrial Designer, Lighting Designer, Germany
Ingo Maurer was born on 12 May 1932 on the island of Reichenau in Lake Constance.
After an apprenticeship as a typesetter and graphic design studies in Munich, he moved to the USA in 1960. Until 1963 he worked as a graphic designer in New York and San Francisco.
In 1966, he went into business for himself with the Design M company.
In the early 1990s, he started to exhibit light installations, objects and designs of a non-commercial nature in exhibitions and realized projects for public and private clients. He designed light installations for the Westfriedhof subway station in Munich (1998), Issey Miyake's London showroom, and the interiors of the Atomium in Brussels (2006).
He died on 21 October in Munich.
