Centre de Préhistoire du Pech Merle
Courtesy of the Centre de Préhistoire du Pech Merle (Pech Merle Prehistory Centre), we present to you a selection of prehistoric cave paintings from the Midi-Pyrénées region in France.
The Pech Merle caves are most famous for the polychrome cave painting known as "The Dappled/Spotted Horses of Pech-Merle" which is accompanied by numerous hand stencils. Other highlights include "The Black Frieze" and the "Wounded Man".
Archaeologists believe that the cave's rock art dates back to 25,000 - 13,000 BC.
