CHINA - Imperial China
Imperial rule in China endured for over 2000 years, albeit with some interruptions, until 1st January 1912 when the Republic of China was proclaimed by Sun Yat-sen.

Puyi (1906-1967), of the Manchu Aisin Gioro clan, was the last Emperor of China and the final ruler of the Qing dynasty. He was merely two years old when he succeeded to the throne.

Subsequent attempts to restore the monarchy in China by reinstalling Puyi to the throne failed; as did the collaboration with Japan between 1932 and 1945, during which Puyi ruled the puppet state of Manchukuo.

The last Emperor of China died in 1967 in humble surroundings, after many years of imprisonment and re-education in the Communist camps of the People's Republic of China.
