May 1968
Within a few days, the protests of Parisian students expanded to a nationwide general strike by over ten million workers and employees. Occupied companies, locked out managers, burning barricades, public life came to a standstill - France was on the brink of revolution.

In addition to improvements in study conditions and the right of free expression of opinion, labour law aspects such as standard wage increasings, minimum wages and working time reductions were central demands of the protest movement. At least for a short time, student demands for democratization of society met with those of the working class.
In the long term, this revolt led to cultural, political and economic reforms in France.
